A place where sand, water, forest and rock are natural hazards, the Les Cheneaux Golf Club is traditional in its essential features. Play is to and from the water, and the land dictates the design of the holes rather than having a course imposed on it.
Though changes have been made since 1898 (lengthening of some holes for instance), the character of the links remains. Many of the hazards are overgrown piles of fieldstone cleared from the original fairways and the perpetual natural hazards of forest and rock are still challenging.
